We went to a lot of bars in NYC. But we stayed in Manhattan proper. We did not venture into Brooklyn or Queens. We were recognized everywhere but most people left us alone and just waved or came by and shook our hands and told us how much they enjoy the videos. Some of the bars we enjoyed the most besides Stonewall, was Therapy up in Hell’s Kitchen, Tys, The Boots and Saddle, and The Monster down in the West Village. We wandered into the Monster our last night there for a final drink before heading back to the hotel to pack. The Monster was a true cross section of gay culture. Young, old, business men, blue collar, bear, twink, muscle, thin, trendy, counter culture … you name it and it was there. Truly our kind of place. We wish we had found it sooner. There was a piano player playing show tunes and people were bellied up to the piano and singing along. A few people did double takes, waved to us and smiled. Then we met a very hot young ebony man we will call Robert. Robert played it off as though he did not know us but he sure flirted and couldn’t have been more blunt in conveying his desire to go back to our hotel to get our fuck on. That is until he realized that nothing was going to happen unless the camera was rolling. Poor Robert found that to be a major buzz kill and couldn’t believe we would not make an exception in his case. Robert disappeared faster than Bud Lite at a Bear run and we were left to finish our drinks and head back to the hotel alone.
Anyway, as far as I am concerned. The two must see bars in Manhattan are Stonewall Inn and The Monster. They are across the street from each other on Christopher Street in the West Village. therapy up in Hells Kitchen isn’t bad either.
